Goodbye Greeting Cards...

Hmmmm..
Why didn't I send them?
...or why do I send them late?
Hmmmm..
I know that if my friend lives in Canada I won't send it cause I have to buy a different priced stamp.
Hmmmm..
I know that I have sent cards only to receive a thank you on Facebook or messenger or text.
Hmmmm....
I know that it takes extra effort these days to send a card, and they can be expensive. To receive a card in the mail is a very special touch. It is worth a quick note letting the person know how special it is to find their gift of friendship in your mailbox.
But I recognize that we may be losing special touches these days. I don't want to, but the modern way of communicating is swallowing those special touches up it seems. But I don't like it.
Why? Because when I look at the handwritten letters I received from my dad, I know he touched it and is still there with me . I lost all of the ones my mom wrote and I am sad thinking about how nice it would be to see her handwriting, the coffee stain on the ruled paper, the places where her tears fell.
I have a handwritten recipe book from my sister. I love the drawings she made and the little quips as much a I love the old family recipes. Besides, she touched it.i can still smell the perfume of her love.
You see, I think it is important to write your children. I don't have children to send cards to, my children are the ones I invested half of my adult years in. I loved each one as my own. But seldom am I ever thought of by them or appreciated. But this is good: I now know how a parent must feel whose children do the same to them.
Anyway, write your children, family loved ones. Write them even if they are mad at you or throw them out or send them back or don't think much of them. Do it because God sees you reaching out to them with love.
Never let not receiving one make you stop caring either. God does not withdraw his love from us. He is always ready to leave his mark of love on us. We must be more like him and not lose the special touches. Take a step and cross the street. Leave a handwritten note, a handwritten recipe, or a handwritten post-it. It is a special touch. It is the love of God moving through you to another and an everlasting investment you are making in heaven.
Every card and letter I receive I save. They are that special to me. I take the time to go through them and pray for the person who touched that card, who left a part of themselves there by a simple touch.
